Special Education Needs Teacher

The Russett Learning Trust and Governors wish to appoint an enthusiastic practitioner who is passionate about teaching pupils and young people with complex needs.

The Russett School is an all aged (2 – 19) special academy providing outstanding education for pupils and young people with, Severe Learning Difficulties, Speech and Language Difficulties and Complex Needs. We are looking for candidates who are committed to the vision and values of the school.

At the Russett School we seek to prepare our learners for life through prioritising skills required to meet their full potential.

Through our specialist curriculum, our children and young people are empowered through a strong emphasis on the development of individual communication strategies.

Our Russett team provide enriching and safe environments, where our pupils are encouraged to develop independence, whilst promoting well-being for a happy and fulfilled future.

When we asked our pupils what they would like from a teacher, they said they “want a nice teacher who is kind, helpful and fun and gives us exciting work to do.”

It is anticipated that the successful candidates will be able to deliver outstanding teaching, bringing high expectations of behaviour and attainment. We value our team and the Trust is committed to supporting and developing staff through a comprehensive staff training programme, extensive CPD and ongoing career development opportunities. Staff wellbeing is extremely important to us and all staff have access to support from the Schools Advisory Service from which they can access amongst other things:

  • Annual health check
  • Counselling services
  • Physiotherapy and mindfulness
  • GP phone and video consultations
  • Nurse support

The Russett School & The Russett Learning Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Child safer recruitment procedures operate and all offers of employment are subject to references and an Enhanced DBS check for all applicants. 

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the school is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are ‘spent’ unless ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Salary: Main Pay Scale + SEN Allowance: ECT welcome to apply

Location: The Russett School, Middlehurst Avenue, Weaverham, Northwich, Cheshire CW8 3BW. 

Start date: September 2024

Contract: Temporary

Work Pattern: Full time – 5 days per week

DBS Check: Enhanced 

Closing Date: 16th May 2024 at 12.00pm

Short Listing will take place on the 17th May 2024

Interviews will be held on the 24th May 2024
