Welcome to Room 6
We have a wonderful group of 11 pupils within our classroom. Our staff team consists of Ed, Sarah, Alex and Ciara. The pupils in Room 6 are in their final years in lower school. We focus on developing their communication, independence and social interaction skills, preparing them as much as we can for their transition to upper school.
The pupils are supported on an exciting and fulfilling learning journey, broadening their skills and developing knowledge, at a pace appropriate to them. We have the high expectations for our Room 6 class, engaging their interest through a range of fun sensory and practical activities, alongside formal written tasks.
This term our Coastal Learners are looking forward to developing their knowledge and skills across a range of topics, including My Communication, My Play and Leisure, My Problem and Thinking skills amongst others. The pupils enjoy accessing a curriculum with a heavy focus on sensory input and practical work activities. Within this, we will be exploring our sensory poem ‘In the Rainforest’ and ‘Elma the Elephant’. Sessions such as Tea and Chat help our pupils work on their skills at making requests, following orders and encountering real life situations.
Our Countryside learners will be accessing a blended approach to their learning. The pupils will be accessing a thematic curriculum, where the focus for our spring term will be ‘The Rainforest’.
Pupils accessing our City pathway will again be accessing a highly tailored curriculum, adapted to suit the needs of our group.
Reading in Room 6 during the spring term will consist of the following texts:
- Charlotte’s Web
- Gangsta Granny
- Elmer the Elephant
- In the Rainforest (a sensory poem)
In addition, we have several exciting activities planned across the term, including:
