Welcome to Room 3

Welcome to Room 3 Image

Room 3 is a very happy class of 12 KS1/LKS2 learners whose learning activities are delivered through a multi-sensory approach. The children’s learning is supported through a variety of creative and motivating resources including Colourful Semantics and Numicon. Our timetable is enriched further through Balanceability, yoga and Forest Schools sessions. To promote and support the children’s communication skills, we adopt a total communication approach in the classroom.

The Room 3 team are Andrea, Jess (W PM), Sarah (M,T,W) Chris (Th, F) Kim and Georgia.

This term our Coastal Learners are looking forward to exploring a range of topics and learning through engaging activities which offer opportunities to practice skills including anticipation, participation, communication of preferences and making requests.

Our Countryside learners will enjoy developing their skills in communication, social interaction, functional literacy, numeracy, understanding of the world, independence and self-help skills.  They will be provided with opportunities to master these skills and transfer them to different contexts through a range of topics.

Pupils on our City pathway will access a range of subjects with learning linked to life and independence skills.  The children’s learning will be consolidated and applied in practical activities throughout the curriculum to encourage the transference of skills and knowledge.

Reading in Room 3 – For Room 3, sharing books and reading is the first activity of the school day. This promotes the children’s imagination, their curiosity for the world they live in, supports their communication skills and is great fun! Our focus texts in English this term are Meg and Mog by Helen Nicoll and The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. We are sure that these classic stories will inspire a wealth of sensory experiences, creative writing and artwork. The children will learn about the value of persistence through The Very Busy Spider story, exploring how the spider works hard until her job is completed. Additionally, the children will have opportunities to apply and practise their reading skills through all areas of the curriculum.

In addition, we have sessions planned for the

  • Darkroom on Thursday mornings
  • Lightroom on Friday mornings
  • Forest Schools on Wednesdays
  • Yoga on Thursday mornings
  • Balanceability on Friday mornings

Please see our class timetable for more information.

In Room 3, we enjoy capturing evidence of our learning through Evisense. Please check your child’s page to see what we have been doing!
